Thank you for your donation!
During the month of April we ran a Japan Disaster Relief promotion that would benefit Save the Children. Because this charity uses 90% of funds received to give aid to the children, they were on the top of a very short list of charities that we considered. We are all aware that the time Japan will need to rebuild and recall some sort of normalcy will take many years. The most vulnerable, in my opionion, are the elderly, young children, pets and those who are disabled.
We understand that there are so many people and businesses that have been economically challenged. Thank you for so much for caring and sharing what you could.
Rob's Grill is able to make a donation of $2437 to Save the Children, meeting your generosity dollar for dollar.

Have your money in hand & be ready to order
How to Get a Busy Bartender's Attention
1. Pick your spot well. The best place to stand is at the bartender's station, where he's actually mixing the drinks. The farther you are from the station, the longer you're likely to wait.
2. Have your money in your hand where the bartender can see it, and avoid gesturing. Keep looking at him; he'll make eye contact when he can. Did we mention no gesturing, no whistling (we're not dogs).
BE READY TO ORDER. Quick and easy. in and out.
3. Tip well — at least 20 percent — or be prepared to wait (and wait and wait) for your next round. Bartenders always remember good tippers and will give those customers priority.

Never Forget Sandy G
Five years ago in January 2006, a young mother was found murdered in a sleepy little town on the West Side of Kauai. Her killer has never been brought to justice. Her family and friends want us to Never Forget Sandy G, and asked the YWCA to name their annual fundraising event in her honor. Rob's Good Times Grill was honored to participate in the 4th Annual Never Forget Sandy G golf tournament. The support of individuals and businesses help aid the YWCA's efforts to eliminate violence that tragically affect all of us.

Local Boy Konishiki helps feed Japan’s disaster victims
In April Konishiki organized a humanitarian mission to aid tsunami victims still living in emergency shelters. "The trick was to just at least give them something hot to eat. So we cooked up this Chanko soup. It's stew. It's like a sumo stew." He and his team fed an estimated 5000 people. Not only did he purchase a large portion of the food, he cooked and served the victims as well. During his sumo career, he was the most successful sumotori in Japan.

Did you go GREEN?

If you weren't here, you missed a great event! Live entertainment in the tent throughout the evening kept the vibe loose and flowing. Green beads, silly hats and Rob's free Leapin' Leprechaun shirts were worn by the happy partygoers ! Much merriment all in celebration of St. Patrick, the Saint of Irelant.
Did you know that St. Patrick's Day is a solemn holiday and a holy day of obligation in Ireland? Everywhere else, the country of Ireland is celebrated. March 17th is the day of St. Patrick's death.
The shamrock (clover) symbolizes the Holy Trinity (Father, Son and Holy Spirit) and the religious conversion of Ireland from Catholocism to Christianity. A four leaf clover is lucky, each leaf symbolizing hope, faith, love and happiness. Leprechauns work as shoe menders for Irish fairies, being paid in gold coins that they keep hidden in pots.....hence, pot 'o gold. And lastly, why wear green? Green is the color of nature and hope. It was the color of several revolutionary groups in the early 1900's and was adopted as one of the national flag's colors. Ireland is known at The Emerald Isle, so abundant in greenery.

First Annual Restaurant Bowl. I'm sure there will be many more to follow after such a good turnout! Three restaurants, three teams and an entourage of supporters.

Each person playing was required to bring 10lbs. of food that would be later donated to the Kauai Food Bank.

Black Friday
Millions participate in Black Friday’s sporting event
It should be an annual sporting event. It requires planning, patience and training (see Target's amusing commercials with the woman doing unusual workouts in anticipation for the big day?) Black Friday is extremely physical, requires strategic planning and in "I really don't know when it happened, dear. We both lost our heads shopping this year."the end, everyone wins when they reach the finish line with some kind of bargain. Score!
Like right before the Running of the Bulls. Can you feel the frenzy building?

Beer Ball Team
Ahhh.....the sweet aroma of clean air and freshly cut green grass. Simple pleasures to awaken your senses! And don't forget the aroma of steak and oysters on the grill and sloshed beer on sweaty shirts.
Welcome to the Beer Ball....two teams of mixed Staff and customers showed up at Puhi Park with intent on fulfilling the dream of whipping each other's opponents butts.
Arriving with gear in hand, beer and insane amounts of food each was ready for showtime. Amidst much heckling and laughter, players could only make it on base after hitting and making a run for first base with beer in hand. Yeah, some plays were a bit questionable (can you actually tackle the runner so he can't get on base?!!) Bartender Nilo ended up being the MVP that saved Team Rob.
Nice day in spite of the sunburn and sore muscles! See you at the next one!

Rob’s Tries The Green For St. Patty’s Day
LIHU‘E — Rob Silverman said they do this on the Mainland so he thought he would try it, here.
St. Patrick’s Day and its overall green atmosphere gave birth in a tent outside Rob’s Good Times Grill, many motorists taking advantage of the drive-through feature to pick up a corned beef plate lunch to celebrate the occasion.
“I know they do things like this on the Mainland, so I thought I would try it, here to see how it would go,” said Rob Silverman, owner Rice Shopping Center eatery.
Roy Yamakawa of the University of Hawai‘i College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources said if he knew ahead of time, he would have picked up a plate.
“Have you seen the potatoes?” Yamakawa asked. “They look really good. But that’s alright, I’m having corned beef for dinner.”
Others took advantage of having lunch in the tent decorated with shining green shamrocks and banners, awaiting live entertainment and contests later in the afternoon.
“We’re going to have taxi drivers parked in the parking lot for those who celebrate too much,” said Nathan Cantor between plate lunches. “We want people to have fun, but they have to do it responsibly.”
One of the diners said this was a really nice way of celebrating St. Patrick’s Day.
Kaili Mills, 11, and Jaden Delos Reyes, 7, were decked out in St. Patrick’s Day bling while waiting for their lunch inside the Rice Shopping Center eatery.
“It’s spring break and they have to eat lunch,” said Delos Reyes’ mother. “This is really nice.”
Tthe celebration was scheduled to run all day from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. with most of the festivities coinciding with pau hana time between 3 to 10 p.m.
Some of the diners suggested that Rob do more of these themed events, even to one each month based on different themes.
“We’ll wait to see how this one goes before getting there,” Rob said.
On the South Shore, Joe’s on the Green also was advertising a St. Patrick’s Day menu as well as special programming starting in the afternoon.
St. Patrick’s Day is an annual holiday celebrated on March 17, named after Saint Patrick (circa AD 387-461), the most commonly recognized of the patron saints of Ireland, states an online source.
Originally, a Catholic holiday, it became an official feast day in the early 1600s, eventually becoming more of a secular celebration of Ireland’s culture.
